Résumé anglais
Pesticides are the substances used to kill the pest that damages the agricultural products to overcome the loss of yield. The bio-pesticides are naturally produced substances from the biological origin and that can be an alternative for the synthetic pesticides. It controls the pests by different mechanisms such as inhibiting the growth, reproduction or metabolism of the infective pathogen. Micro-algae are the microscopic algae found mainly in fresh water and marine water. Especially cyanobacteria is regarded as the main biological pest control agents which controls the various diseases in the plants. It produces various bioactive compounds against fungi, nematodes and other diseases. It kills the targeted pests by the inactivation of important enzymes, disruption of cytoplasmic membranes and inhibition of protein synthesis. It can also boost the immune system of the plants and promotes the production of antioxidants compounds for the disease resistance. It converts the carbon dioxide and oxygen into water, primary and secondary metabolites. The secondary metabolites produced by the micro-algae are responsible for the pesticidal, insecticidal, nematocidal and antimicrobial properties. The secondary metabolites produced by the micro-algae such as Anabaena laxa, Calothrix sp. Chlorella vulgaris and Fischerella sp shows antimicrobial, larvicidal and insecticidal activities. It also can promote soil health and prevents soil erosion. Micro-algae helps in reducing the chemicals compounds and also enhances the crop yield. There are many species of micro-algae capable of producing metabolites with pesticidal activities. Hence, the Micro-algae can be potentially used for the production of biopesticide which will replace the chemical pesticides. Key words: Pesticides, Micro-algae, Secondary metabolites and Bio-pesticides.
