Résumé anglais
Owing to consumer health concerns and environmental problems derived from packaging wastes, various research groups have been looking toward green polymers as biodegradable alternatives to synthetic plastic packages. Various biodegradable polymers and composites have studied for their ability to be used as food packaging. To some of these packaging materials, antimicrobial agents have been added to inhibit food spoiling or pathogenic microorganisms which in return also extends the shelf-life of packed food. In this chapter, we will discuss biocomposites used in food packaging, biodegradation of these packaging, and their limitations. We will also see some of the antimicrobial agents used in these food packaging to make it an active food packaging.
