Résumé
This study investigates the possibilities of implementing biocontrol within a organic hop cultivation in accordance with existing regulations within EU, as well as how an integrated pest management (IPM)-strategy might be developed. The study was carried out as a literature study, with interview material from an international grower of organic hops. The results showed that the possibilities of carrying out biocontrol in an organic hop cultivation within the EU shows a clear improvement in regard to the application and regulation of biological control agents. However, there’s still ways to go until the optimal conditions are met with regards to the introduction and registration of BCAs. Since current laws vary between countries, and regulations tend to be very strict, this leads to a lack of studies that would advance the development of biological control agents. These studies are crucial, as they are part of the foundation that elevates the accessibility of implementing biocontrol within the area of pest management. The results of this study also showed that the development for an IPM-strategy within organic cultivation of hops could prove crucial to the farmers. By constructing a knowledge-based and preventive strategy, with extensive gathering of data regarding potential and existing pest infestations, a sustainable strategy might be developed based on the obtained knowledge.
