La traction asine connaît un regain d’intérêt en maraîchage. L’École nationale des ânes maraîchers, basée à Villeneuve-sur-Lot (Lot-et-Garonne), enregistre un succès grandissant : elle a formé 50 stagiaires par an en 2018 et 2019, alors qu’elle en avait formé seulement trois en 2012 (année de création de cette structure). Cette école poursuit trois objectifs : former des maraîchers à la traction asine, éduquer de jeunes ânes et innover en matière d’outils agricoles. La traction asine est en effet particulièrement bien adaptée au maraîchage : la précision de travail avec un âne est de 20 cm (contre 70 à 80 cm pour les chevaux), elle ne tasse pas le sol et permet de travailler de petites surfaces non accessibles en tracteur. A cela, il faut ajouter le plaisir du contact avec l’animal. Côté coût, Pascal Sachot, directeur de l’École nationale des ânes maraîchers, chiffre l’achat d’un âne dressé à 2 500 € HT, avec 800 à 1 000 € pour le harnachement et un entretien annuel de 200 €. Les outils pouvant être utilisés en traction asine se sont largement améliorés ces dernières années, ce qui a permis d’augmenter en précision et en confort de travail (les porte-outils Kassine et Eco-Bio sont plus amplement détaillés). Il faut compter entre 1 300 et 6 000 € pour l'achat des outils.

Donkey traction is enjoying renewed interest in market gardening. The National School of Market Garden Donkeys, based in Villeneuve-sur-Lot (Lot-et-Garonne), is enjoying growing success: it trained 50 trainees per year in 2018 and 2019, while it had trained only three in 2012 (year of creation of this structure). This school has three objectives: train market gardeners in donkey traction, educate young donkeys and innovate in agricultural tools. Donkey traction is in fact particularly well suited to market gardening: the working precision with a donkey is 20 cm (compared to 70 to 80 cm for horses), it does not compact the soil and makes it possible to work on small areas not accessible by tractor. To this, we must add the pleasure of contact with the animal. On the cost side, Pascal Sachot, director of the National School of Market Gardeners, estimates the purchase of a trained donkey at € 2,500 excluding tax, with € 800 to € 1,000 for harnessing and an annual maintenance of € 200. The tools that can be used in donkey traction have greatly improved in recent years, which has made it possible to increase in precision and in working comfort (the Kassine and Eco-Bio tool holders are more fully detailed). It takes between 1,300 and 6,000 € for the purchase of tools.
