Aux lendemains de la seconde guerre mondiale, l’agriculture connaît une avancée majeure grâce aux progrès techniques et technologiques. Ce modèle agricole devient alors dominant grâce à une productivité toujours grandissante. Des enjeux environnementaux, climatiques et sociétaux émergent des externalités négatives dégagées par ce modèle. Des alternatives jaillissent afin de répondre à ces enjeux globaux. L’agroécologie est une de ces alternatives. Les agriculteurs étant les premiers acteurs du système alimentaire, les objectifs de cette étude ont été d’une part d’analyser la compréhension de l’agroécologie par des agriculteurs de la filière céréalière wallonne, d’autre part d’établir les liens qu’ils effectuent entre l’agriculture biologique et l’agroécologie et enfin d’identifier, s’il existe, un mode de production agroécologique. Les données pour répondre à ces objectifs ont été récoltées grâce à des entretiens semi-dirigés avec des agriculteurs céréaliers wallons et ont été analysées qualitativement. L’analyse des résultats a permis de classer les agriculteurs par mode de production sur base des pratiques utilisées. Elle a également permis d’identifier deux visions de l’agroécologie : l’une technique, résumant l’agroécologie à un ensemble de pratiques et l’autre sociétale, incluant des paramètres tels que la souveraineté alimentaire ou un système social. Il ressort également de cette étude qu’il existe de multiples façons de comprendre le lien établi entre l’agriculture biologique et l’agroécologie. Enfin lorsque modèle technique et vision sociétale sont croisées, il ressort qu’un mode de production agroécologique existe et est identifiable. L’identification de deux visions différentes de l’agroécologie démontre l’existence de différents paramètres influençant la compréhension du terme chez les agriculteurs céréaliers wallons. L’identification de ces paramètres permettrait une avancée dans une transition agroécologique dans le secteur agricole wallon.

In the aftermath of the Second World War, agriculture experienced a major advance thanks to technical and technological progress. This agricultural model then becomes dominant thanks to ever-increasing productivity. Environmental, climatic and societal issues emerge from the negative externalities generated by this model. Alternatives are emerging in order to respond to these global challenges. Agroecology is one of those alternatives. As farmers are the primary players in the food system, the objectives of this study were on the one hand to analyze the understanding of agroecology by farmers in the Walloon cereal sector, on the other hand to establish the links that they work between organic farming and agroecology and finally identify, if there is, an agroecological mode of production. The data to meet these objectives were collected through semi-structured interviews with Walloon cereal farmers and were qualitatively analyzed. Analysis of the results made it possible to classify farmers by production method based on the practices used. It also identified two visions of agroecology: one technique, summarizing agroecology to a set of practices and the other societal, including parameters such as food sovereignty or a social system. It also emerges from this study that there are multiple ways of understanding the link established between organic farming and agroecology. Finally, when technical model and societal vision are crossed, it emerges that an agroecological mode of production exists and is identifiable. The identification of two different visions of agroecology demonstrates the existence of different parameters influencing the understanding of the term among Walloon cereal farmers. The identification of these parameters would allow progress in an agroecological transition in the Walloon agricultural sector.
