Résumé français
Organic farming is increasing on French soil, thus the government is acting in this direction. However, numerous hurdles on conversion have been identified. The change in the organization of work is one of them, and work overload limits farmers to take the plunge. Work influences the consistency and performance of farms. This present study seeks to characterize work on organic farmers in the Massif Central. It contributes to the reflection on the consideration of the work in the production of references in five ruminant breeding sectors : beef cattle, dairy cattle, mutton, dairy sheep, goats. The Assessment work method was adapted to quantify the working time of breeders, taking into account the particularities of the organic work, and to collect the feelings of the breeders on their work. The sample did not produce consolidated references, but gives tracks for their construction. Indeed, the organization of work in organic farms is influenced by: the choice of calving periods, the market demand, the periods of guarding, the distribution of tasks, the transformation and the commercialization of the products and the diversification of activities. The work’s organization depends on what the breeder is looking in his activity. Overall, farmers didn’t feel overworked in organic farming and enjoyed their activity. They think that the organic farming work develops capacities of anticipation, observation of the nature, innovation, and permits more sharing with the other breeders. Interviewed breeders feel overall serene in their job.
