Lors du Sommet Action Climat des Nations Unies à New York, le 23 septembre 2019, la coalition One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B) est officiellement fondée. Réunissant plusieurs des plus influentes firmes agroalimentaires mondiales telles que Danone, Nestlé, Unilever, Mars et Yara, celle-ci déclare avoir pour ambition la promotion d’un concept largement méconnu de la communauté des agronomes : l’agriculture régénératrice. Afin de clarifier les tenants et aboutissants de ce nouveau concept, le mémoire présenté ici se donne pour objectifs de répondre aux trois questions suivantes : Qu’est-ce que l’agriculture régénératrice ? Comment expliquer l’émergence récente de ce concept ? Quelle est la pertinence de ce concept dans une optique de transition des systèmes alimentaires ? À travers une approche globale combinant des procédés d’analyses bibliométrique et sémantique ainsi qu’une revue complète de littérature, le mémoire éclaircit l’état actuel du concept d’agriculture régénératrice. Il met en évidence la légèreté de ses fondements scientifiques, ainsi que la diversité des interprétations qui le constituent. Le processus de construction du concept est décrit comme le rapprochement de trajectoires initialement indépendantes adoptant une même appellation pour décrire un paradigme d’innovation commun. L’efficacité du discours développé en termes de fédération d’acteurs est évidente. Cependant, les revendications des défenseurs du concept concernant le changement climatique et le développement durable sont en contradiction avec les connaissances scientifiques actuelles. Les principales recommandations proposées à ce stade sont une clarification de la terminologie, une adaptation du discours aux connaissances actuelles et l’intégration du concept dans une vision plus large de la transition des systèmes agricoles. L’influence mondiale des acteurs qui adoptent aujourd’hui la vision de l’agriculture régénératrice justifie qu’une attention toute particulière soit portée à ce concept par la communauté scientifique. Bien que les fondements scientifiques du concept soient discutables, celui-ci pourrait éventuellement représenter une opportunité de mise en mouvement des acteurs des systèmes alimentaires dans une direction positive en matière de respect de l’environnement.

At the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York on September 23, 2019, the One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B) coalition is officially founded. Bringing together several of the world's most influential agribusiness firms such as Danone, Nestlé, Unilever, Mars and Yara, the latter claims to have the ambition to promote a concept largely unknown to the agronomist community: regenerative agriculture. In order to clarify the ins and outs of this new concept, the brief presented here aims to answer the following three questions: What is than regenerative agriculture? How to explain the recent emergence of this concept ? What is the relevance of this concept from a systems transition perspective? food? Through a global approach combining bibliometric analysis processes and semantics as well as a comprehensive review of the literature, the thesis clarifies the current state of the concept of regenerative agriculture. It highlights the lightness of its foundations scientific, as well as the diversity of interpretations that constitute it. The process of construction of the concept is described as the approximation of trajectories initially independent companies adopting the same name to describe an innovation paradigm common. The effectiveness of the discourse developed in terms of federation of actors is obvious. However, the claims of defenders of the concept regarding the climate change and sustainable development are at odds with the current scientific knowledge. The main recommendations proposed for this stage are a clarification of terminology, an adaptation of the discourse to current knowledge and the integration of the concept into a broader vision of agricultural systems transition. The global influence of those who embrace the vision of agriculture today regenerative justifies that particular attention be paid to this concept by the scientific community. Although the scientific foundations of the concept are debatable, this could possibly represent an opportunity to movement of food system actors in a positive direction in terms of respect for the environment.
