Le Grand Est présente un cheptel porcin d’environ 360 000 animaux sur 560 exploitations professionnelles,
ce qui place la région au 8ème rang national, avec environ 2,7 % du total national, la production française
étant dominée par la Bretagne qui compte un effectif de près de 8 millions de têtes. Depuis 10 ans, le cheptel
régional a eu tendance à diminuer, comme au niveau national.
La production régionale est concentrée à l’ouest et à l’est de la région, trois départements (Marne, Aube et
Bas-Rhin) concentrant 59 % des capacités d’élevage.
La région est exportatrice nette de porcs vivants : en France métropolitaine, avec près de 500 000 porcs
expédiés par an, principalement pour abattage dans d’autres régions, et à l’étranger, en majorité à destination
de l’Allemagne pour abattage, avec plus de 40 000 têtes par an.
L’aval de la filière représente près de 4 000 emplois dans la région, concentrés à l’est de la région et dans
l’Aube.
La production de porcs sous label Agriculture Biologique est symbolique, avec un effectif de moins de 400
truies en 2019.

The Grand Est has a pig herd of around 360,000 animals on 560 professional farms,
which places the region 8th nationally, with around 2.7% of the national total, French production
being dominated by Brittany which has a workforce of nearly 8 million heads. For 10 years, the herd
regional tended to decrease, as at the national level.
Regional production is concentrated in the west and east of the region, three departments (Marne, Aube and
Bas-Rhin) concentrating 59% of the breeding capacity.
The region is a net exporter of live pigs: in mainland France, with nearly 500,000 pigs
shipped annually, mainly for slaughter in other regions, and abroad, mostly to
from Germany for slaughter, with more than 40,000 head per year.
Downstream of the sector represents nearly 4,000 jobs in the region, concentrated in the east of the region and in
dawn.
The production of pigs under the Organic Agriculture label is symbolic, with a workforce of less than 400
sows in 2019.
